In just a few months we've been able to bring up questions about a national identity scheme in the Scottish Parliament, organise local group activism, and meet with MSPs to raise concerns about digital rights. But we still need your help!
Our supporters told us that they really wanted someone to work specifically on Scottish digital rights threats. Thanks to them we were able to start ORG Scotland, and welcome on board Pol Clement-Smith who's doing great work already.
Many people are concerned by the direction the Scottish Parliament is taking with civil liberties. There are growing plans for Entitlement Cards – a scheme that looks rather like ID Cards by the back door, attacks on Freedom of Information law, proposals for massive data sharing across the Scottish government, and laws ordering the blocking of sectarian websites.
Open Rights Group have opened the door for digital rights campaigning, but there's still so much more we'd like to do. Currently we have one person, working part-time. With the help of your membership we can make that full time, and long term. The more new people joining ORG, the more we'll be able to work for digital rights in Scotland. No other rights organisation is currently working on these issues.
ORG are a small organisation but we punch well above our weight. We have had huge impact through our work on surveillance, privacy, copyright, open data and data protection. Joining ORG right now will make an enormous difference by allowing us to have that same impact in Scotland.
